VRSIMUL8 is a XR training tool for utility workers, power-line technicians and linemen. These workers face life-threatening hazards on a daily basis, making even training difficult to do. As many as fourty linemen die each year due to work-related incidents. Virtual and mixed reality were the exact tools necessary to help reduce risk of injury through training and repetition.
We designed the application from the ground up using existing utility tasks. Our agile team broke each feature of the application into multiple sprint cycles. Three major phases of development followed, each one concluding with months of iteration based on real technician feedback. The result was a fully room-scale ready transformer installation prototype that worked on all major desktop headsets. The entirety of the prototype was created in Unity.
